Important: “Per m²” for cobbles is based on net stone coverage
Cobble setts are traditionally laid with visible joints (often around 10–12 mm). Because of this, the final laid area is usually slightly larger than the net stone area. A 9 m² crate of 200 x 100 x 50 setts often covers closer to around 9.9–10.2 m² once laid.
Which size is best for driveways and paths?
- 200 x 100 x 50 – the classic UK driveway and path sett size, strong and efficient to lay.
- 100 x 100 x 50 – ideal for courtyards, edging and a more traditional cobbled appearance.
- 200 x 50 x 40 – commonly used for borders and detailed paving patterns.
Tumbled vs hand-cut: what’s the difference?
Tumbled setts have softened edges for an aged, established look that suits older properties and classic British landscaping. Hand-cut setts retain sharper edges and a more defined natural riven character.
Both finishes are durable and suitable for UK conditions. The choice is mainly aesthetic and should reflect the character of the property.
